[...] 3. Timing Timing is very important when refinancing. If you originally financed for your car during high interest rates, it is best to refinance. If your credit score has gone up by at least 55 points, then you should refinance. This is because you would be getting a better deal if you refinanced than what you are currently paying, and it is only fair to pay a price that would be beneficial for your budget and economic status.Source: consumer-care.com [...]

That was one of the things i have learnt from this website.....'pay off the charge with the highest interest rate first'....and not minimum balance either.

Obviously banks have a considerably greater balance sheet, size does not measure quality! Just an indication of the sheer number of transactions.
Ps. Oregon must be doing something right!

I am actually sitting here in a state of shock! This is a real eye opener, if my credit card provider (who shall remain nameless) broke this process down to me like that in the video I would have payed more than the minimum payments. I could have funded a round the world trip instead. Appreciated customer care.

thanks Trevor - we appreciate hearing from you. Yes the situation is getting worse as the banks try to maintain their income from fees and other ways that most people are not aware of. Thanks again for stopping by.

I have just sent this link to my girlfriend; she never opens let alone reads her monthly statements. I was actually flabbergasted to know that if you paid more than the minimum credit card balance it would go towards the bill with the lowest interest rate...INSTEAD of going towards those bills with the highest interest rates!

I’m glad that been changed. Keeping abreast of bank changes is so important because it seems as if they are constantly looking to exploit us in every way possible. Any post which helps me save more is definitely a favorite, cheers. Keep them coming.

The general consensus here is that it is in our interest to obtain finance from a bank or credit union as opposed to a dealership, agreed. However, the problem comes into play when your credit rating is bad or nonexistent....banks/credit unions are sometimes unwilling to arrange finance and then I feel the only option is the dealership who will then most certainly spike the interest rate!

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

In 2010 I graduated from Missouri university and what the girls mentioned in the video is the norm. When you're at college the lifestyle is centred around spending money. Even when you’re working on a group assignment, having lunch costs money...so you have two options sit and watch everyone eat or charge it to the card. As a young person the second option is the only option and you deal with the consequences later.

With regards to Jon's comment, I agree that I too am continually disappointed with the banks. I am on my fourth bank, they get their customers in the door through cash-back account opening schemes and services but after a few months they hit you with all these small print charges! I am fed up with it to tell you the truth. Did some research and found out you can actually vote on who you want to serve on the board of directors within credit unions...therefore services i want are likely to be considered.

For me one of the most important and decisive factors for choosing a credit union vs the bank would be the service charges/fees. I have just graduated and simply cannot afford those ridiculous charges. Even worse still my bank has started charging me to receive monthly statements. I will have a look in my area at viable credit unions as I prefer to support an organisation with at least some of my financial interests at heart.
